When tough gambler Beaudray Demerille (Peter Fonda) wins young Wanda Nevada (Brooke Shields) in a poker game, he discovers that his new possession might be more of a hindrance than a help. Setting off to search for gold in the Grand Canyon, Beaudray and Wanda must work together to avoid falling into the hands of a group of criminals who are also after their treasure.
