Synopsis
It should surprise no one that the German aviation drama Wunder des Fliegens (The Flying Wonders) was filmed under the supervision of former WW I flying ace (and later Minister of the Military) Hermann Goering. Real-life aviator Ernst Udet stars as a pilot who takes young Jurgen Olson, the son of Udet's wartime comrade, under his wing. Though Olsen doesn't seem to possess "the right stuff," Udet is able to build the lad into a crackerjack flyboy. And when Olsen gets lost during a flight into an Alpine blizzard, it is Udet who comes to his rescue. Hans Schneeberger's aerial photography is the highlight of Wunder des Fliegens, which, despite Goering's participation, is surprisingly free of Nazi propaganda.
