Set in the scenic rolling hills of Bavaria, the story of the talkies begins back in 1918 when Hans Vogt and two partners invented the Tri-Ergon system, a first step on the path of recording sound on film. An interview with Hans Vogt's younger brother describes the personality of the inventor and adds valuable information on his family background and cultural setting. As for Vogt's future in film, it died when he sold his patent to a Swiss company which later sold it to Fox Studios in Hollywood in 1926, and the rest is history. Vogt's family still lives in the village of Wurlitzer, the name of the Bavarian man who invented the organ played during silent films.
