An extended family living in a large housing unit experiences a minor, internal revolution when a daughter-in-law hoards some meat dumplings and the grandfather decides he should leave. Eventually, the family calms down and resumes their daily routine. In the early 1980s, the Ministry of Culture in China gave this movie its "Best Film" award and chose it as suitable for export.
