Netflix is a gift and a curse. There are so many options that we end up just watching the most hyped-up movies in fear of wasting time on something totally boring. Any horror movie fan knows that Netflix houses some of the worst, not-worth-a-second-of-your-time, Z-quality horror films. Wading through the terrible found footage films and boring jump-scare slasher flicks is torturous. It may feel like you’ve seen every great horror film the service has to offer, but we assure you, that’s not the case.

If you’re looking for a super spooky, super awesome horror flick to watch this Halloween, we’ve compiled the ultimate list of the best Netflix horror movies you haven’t seen. We promise you, there’s not a bad one on this list.

1. The Uninvited

This underrated horror film by the same people who brought you The Ring and Disturbia was in theaters a few years ago, but you probably missed it. It stars the amazing Emily Browning, who plays a teen that returns home from a mental hospital after struggling with the death of her mother. The twist at the end will literally shatter your existence.

2. The Taking Of Deborah Logan

This 2014 horror flick gets really creepy really fast. It follows the story of Mia who is recording the lives of Sarah and her mother Deborah, an elderly woman suffering from Alzheimer’s, for a thesis project. This movie may be a found-footage film, but it doesn’t feel cheesy and the camera angles won’t make you sick.

3. Contracted

This is a zombie movie with a socially conscious message — it warns about STDs and one night stands. It’s pretty thrilling throughout and perfect for any fan of zombie flicks. Warning: some scenes are bound to make you queasy.

4. Would You Rather

This horror flick starring Brittany Snow tests the boundaries of just how far someone will go to help their family. It follows the story of a young girl who attends a deadly game of “would you rather” hosted by a sadistic aristocrat at his mansion in order to save her sick brother. It’s thrilling and grotesque, but not quite as stomach-turning as the torture porn found in the Saw franchise. This is a definite must-watch for fans of Saw and Hostel. 

5. Tucker And Dale Vs. Evil

Hands down, Tucker And Dale Vs. Evil is one of the funniest black comedy films on Netflix. The film plays on the classic horror movie trope of backwoods hillbillies being savage killers. In the film, Tucker and Dale are just trying to enjoy their vacation in the woods when a group of college kids headed to a cabin for a weekend away mistake them for killer hicks. Hilarity (and blood and gore) ensues.

6. Beneath

Not to be confused with the 2007 movie with the same title, Beneath is not for those with claustrophobia. This movie with have you hyperventilating and feeling really closed-in. It follows the story of coal miners trapped 600 feet below ground after a terrible mine collapse. The air grows more toxic by the second, and slowly, the crew descend into madness and turn on one another. This is one of those films that will have you feeling like you can’t breathe the entire time you’re watching it (in the best possible way).

7. Circle

Circle is the perfect film for fans of sci-fi mysteries. Fifty people are held captive in a weird room and forced to play some sort of game where they vote on who lives and who dies. Only one person can remain living. This film is as thoughtful as it is thrilling and not short on the social commentary.

8. Haunter

Abigail Breslin stars as Lisa, a teenager who slowly becomes aware that she’s dead and haunting a house in northern Ontario. Her family, who are unaware that they’re ghosts, are stuck in the same day they were murdered in 1985. This supernatural horror flick is part mystery as Lisa hops through time to try to save the current living inhabitants of the house from being her murderer’s next victims.

9. Hush

This creepy thriller follows the story of a deaf writer who retreated to the woods to live a solitary life. She becomes the target of a masked killer and must fight for her life — only she can’t hear her killer coming! This film is definitely for fans of The Strangers and The Last House On The Left.

10.Devil

What’s a best of horror movie list without something by M. Night Shyamalan? A group of people are stuck in an elevator, and one of the them is the Devil. Each time the power goes out, something evil happens. It’s similar to Circle in premise — everyone is in this elevator for a reason, we just don’t know why. The film becomes a game of who done it that will have you on the edge of your seat.

11. Dark Skies

Keri Russell stars in this creepy, alien abduction-themed thriller. It has all the things a great horror movie needs — a kid who mysteriously knows more about what’s going on than the adults, a maybe-you-shouldn’t-believe-him alien expert, floating objects, random bruises, birds smashing into windows. It’s just creepy across the board.

12. Dead Silence

Donnie Wahlburg and a creepy ventriloquist dummy? Sign us up! This spooky film from the people who brought us Saw follows the story of a widower who returns to his hometown to find answers about his wife’s murder.  It really doesn’t get more creepy than a bunch of weird-looking dolls, does it?

13. The Returned

Okay, so technically The Returned is a TV series, but it’s thrilling, spooky and completely binge-worthy. In fact, you’re going to be very angry that A&E cancelled the series before we got a proper ending. The story is set in a small town where people who have died suddenly reappear as if nothing happened. They are completely unaware of their fatality and haven’t aged one bit. Gruesome murders occur as the returned attempt to reestablish their lives and deal with learning that they were once dead. It’s strange, creative and thrilling all in one, way-too-short series.
