It’s a pretty sucky day for lovers of Westeros, it looks like we’re going to have to wait a whole lot longer before finding out who will end up on the Iron Throne. Game of Thrones season 7 has been delayed (and no it doesn’t have anything to do with Brexit). If you recall during the season six season finale, “The Winds of Winter”, Jon Snow and his sister Sansa Stark talk about winter finally arriving. Since there is going to be a major change in seasons and sunny warm skies will no longer suffice, the production of the series will have to be pushed back in order to accommodate winter’s arrival.
Showrunners David Benioff and D. B. Weiss let GoT fans in on the big change when they appeared on a UFC podcast on July 5th. Though the duo revealed that there is no official release date as of yet, Benioff did say, “We’re starting a bit later because at the end of this season, ‘Winter is here’ — and that means that sunny weather doesn’t really serve our purposes anymore. So we kind of pushed everything down the line so we could get some grim gray weather, even in the sunnier places that we shoot.”
Game of Thrones season 7 will also be shorter than previous seasons, apparently there are only 15 episodes left in the series with season 8 being GoT‘s last. For now at least, it looks like we will see GoT sometime during summer 2017, but when we do, it’s going to be extremely dark and extremely cold. I’ve barely recovered from “The Battle of the Bastards”, so I suppose I was take this next year and change to begin preparing myself.
