Documentary that examines the politics of the revolution in the Mexican state of Chiapas, one of the poorest regions in the country, that began after the signing of the North American Free Trade Agreement in January of 1994. The Zapatista National Liberation Army (EZLN), led by the mysterious revolutionary Commander Marcos, took over 500 ranches in the region and were promptly surrounded by 30,000 Mexican troops resulting in a stand-off.
