Terror on the Tube

From the animated classic It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown to brand-new Halloween episodes of Friends, The Drew Carey Show and others, the tube is fraught with fright in late October.


To keep you from missing one macabre moment, we’ve compiled a guide to Halloween TV to keep things in order. Whether you’re looking for children’s programming or adults-only treats, check out the next two weeks’ worth of small-screen Halloween highlights:

Mon., Oct. 22


Earth vs. the Spider, MAX, 8:30 p.m.: After injecting himself with a bizarre new drug, a man slowly turns into a giant, human-eating spider.


Scariest Places on Earth, FOXFAM, 9 p.m.: Nightmare-athon! New episodes in which camera crews follow brave families who must spend a sleepless night in a supposedly haunted location will air same bat time, same bat channel tonight through Friday.


Wed., Oct. 24


South Park: Korn’s Groovy Pirate Ghost Mystery, COMEDY, 10 p.m.: In this homage to Scooby-Doo, Cartman, Kenny and the gang team up with members of the rock band Korn to discover the true identity of a mysterious pirate ghost.


Fri., Oct. 26


Scariest Places on Earth: A Night in Dracula’s Castle, FOXFAM, 9 p.m.: This final, two-hour episode of Fox Family’s five-day marathon is likely the scariest yet. One family travels to Hunedoara, Vlad Dracula’s famed Romanian castle, as they attempt to spend one terror-filled night within its walls.


MonsterFest 2001, AMC, 8 p.m.: This four-day movie marathon will highlight films featuring Frankenstein, Dracula, the Mummy and the Wolfman.


Sat., Oct. 27


Scooby-Doo and the Alien Invaders. TOON, 7 p.m.: Scooby and the gang seek to discover the cruel intentions of what they think are creatures from another planet.


Scooby-Doo and the Witch’s Ghost, TOON, 9 p.m.: When visions of a mysterious ghost terrify the inhabitants of a small town, Scooby, Shaggy and the rest of the group vie to uncover what the “ghost” is actually up to.


Sun., Oct. 28


Alias, ABC, 9 p.m.: At Sydney’s Halloween party, Will admits to Francie that he is indeed investigating Danny’s murder, but a mysterious woman attending the party soon throws a wrench in Will’s efforts.


Mon., Oct. 29


King of Queens, CBS, 8:00 p.m.: Doug’s impressive Halloween decorations scare Arthur so bad, he has another heart attack.


Yes, Dear, CBS, 8:30 p.m.: Choosing trick over treat on Halloween night, Greg and Jimmy vow to trash the exterior of an insensitive neighbor’s house, but things don’t go as planned.


Tue., Oct. 30


Scooby Doo Monster Marathon, TOON, 12 a.m.: A 24-hour barrage of haunted adventures featuring Scooby, Shaggy, Velma, Fred and Daphne-as well as some no-good villains.


It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, ABC, 8 p.m.: This animated classic finds Charlie and the Peanuts gang preparing for-and celebrating-Halloween, as Linus patiently awaits a visit from the elusive Great Pumpkin.


The Omen Legacy, AMC, 8 p.m.: A 90-minute documentary about the making of The Omen. Following the documentary, The Omen, Damien: Omen II and Omen: The Final Conflict will air.


Emeril, NBC, 8 p.m.: Drunken debauchery usually breaks out at the annual staff Halloween party, but this year, the gals are determined to keep the festivities clean and sober, which proves difficult.


Boo! To You, Too, Winnie the Pooh, ABC, 8:30 p.m.: Piglet must overcome his fears on Halloween night when the group finds themselves lost in a dark section of the forest.


Three Sisters, NBC, 8:30 p.m.: Can a car be haunted? Apparently so, and the sisters use the help of a Ouija board to find out what the ghost wants.


Frasier, NBC, 9 p.m.: Frasier throws a Halloween party at the apartment, only to learn that the building’s children believe that he is an evil ogre who eats kid’s brains, much to Niles’ delight.

Wed., Oct. 31


You Don’t Know Jack About…Drac Marathon, AMC, 6 a.m.: Movie marathon features 12 Dracula-related films. As the marathon progresses, viewers can play an interactive Dracula trivia game online, featuring the sardonic voice made famous by the You Don’t Know Jack CD-ROM games.


She Creature, MAX, 7 p.m.: A greedy circus owner exploits a real-life mermaid, only to discover she has a murderous mean streak.


According to Jim, ABC, 8 p.m.: Though Cheryl forbids Gracie from going trick-or-treating, Jim takes pity on the child and sneaks her out into the night.


ED, NBC, 8 p.m.: The bowling alley serves as the location of a massive Halloween party, but the festivities turn problematic when the party’s emcee-a famous children’s TV personality-encourages one of the kids to run away from home.


How to Make a Monster, MAX, 8:30 p.m.: Two computer programmers obsessed with video games create a virtual monster that suddenly comes to life.


The Drew Carey Show, ABC, 9 p.m.: Drew throws a Halloween party and invites his new boss (guest star Henry Winkler) in hopes of winning him over and getting a major promotion. Also, Lewis’ creepy new dentist gives him a frightening oral makeover.


South Park: Pink Eye, COMEDY, 10 p.m.: Kenny transforms into a ravenous, brain-eating zombie who turns the town of South Park against Chef, Cartman, Stan and Kyle.


Thur., Nov 1


Friends, NBC, 8 p.m.: The gang attends a Halloween party where Phoebe runs into her sister’s fiancée (played by Sean Penn)–only to find herself attracted to him. Elsewhere, at home, Rachel-attempting to be a good neighbor by passing out candy to trick-or-treaters-runs out of sweets and resorts to giving the children money.
