Fantasia Barrino axes concerts over knee injury

Singer Fantasia Barrino has cancelled a pair of upcoming shows as she battles a knee injury and mourns the death of her nephew.
A representative for the former American Idol star took to her Twitter on Thursday (15Feb18) to alert fans to the change of plans, affecting concerts in Atlantic City, New Jersey, and Reading, Pennsylvania.
“Due to her recent knee injury, Fantasia regretfully has to cancel two upcoming performances: Atlantic City on February 17 and Reading on February 24,” the spokesperson writes. “Doctors have ordered her to continue to rest so that she can heal properly.”
The notice goes on to explain Fantasia would also be laying low as she grieves the shooting death of her 18-year-old nephew Tyquan, the son of her musician brother Ricco, who was killed in a fight in North Carolina on Tuesday (13Feb18).
The message continues, “Fantasia has also suffered an incredible tragedy this week with the loss of her nephew and is taking some time to be with her loved ones as they try to process this devastating loss.”
Paramedics attempted to save Tyquan’s life at the scene of the shooting, and he was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was subsequently pronounced dead. A 21-year-old suspect was arrested and has since been charged with first degree murder.
Fantasia shared the sad news on her Instagram page on Tuesday, writing: “Auntie is So Sorry Baby. RIP to my Oldest Nephew Please Pray for his Mother and my Brother & his Stepdad.”
The singer’s next scheduled tour date is due to take place on 17 March (18) in Miami, Florida.
