Synopsis
Bob Levis' politico-erotic hippie western GOLD was made in 1972 around San Francisco and shown at Cannes in 1973 but never released in the United States. The film brings to the screen a feeling of tribalism not experienced in the corporate editing rooms of Hollywood. Intended as a cure for those Americans who refused to draw an analogy between their own prison system and German concentration camps and also refused to acknowledge their army could conduct a genocidal war in Vietnam. Whether or not it achieved this goal is at best moot but that the effort was made is evident in the film's ingenious pretentions.
