  • DreamWorks accused of fraud
By: Kit Bowen May 09, 2001

Jerome O'Connor, the producer of the Barry Levinson-directed An Everlasting Piece, is seeking $100 million in punitive damages against DreamWorks, adding a fraud claim Tuesday to his suit. It alleges that the film, a comedy sympathetic to the Irish Republican Army, was held back in distribution to appease British officials. O'Connor said that an agreement with DreamWorks was made to distribute the film in 800 theaters but was only shown in eight, grossing a mere $75,000 before being removed. O'C

Synopsis
Set against the turbulent backdrop of Belfast in the 1980s, two fellow barbers Colm, a Catholic and George, a Protestant, form an unlikely partnership to corner the toupee market in Northern Ireland. Both slackers, the duo land themselves in a get-rich-quick scheme of selling hair pieces, but soon find themselves in trouble when 'Toupee or Not Toupee', a rival hairpiece company, gets a jump on the competition. More serious problems ensue when the fired up slackers go on the offensive and dupe an IRA soldier, who then suspects them of being undercover British agents.
