Passenger beats Bruce Springsteen to the top of the U.K. charts by 704 sales

Singer/songwriter Passenger is celebrating after beating Bruce Springsteen to the top of the U.K. album charts.
Passenger’s Young As The Morning, Old As The Sea has prevented The Boss from claiming his 11th chart-topper with Chapter And Verse – by just over 700 sales.
The Brit, real name Michael Rosenberg, tells chart compilers at the Official Charts Company, “This is so unbelievably exciting. When I saw that we were up against Springsteen and Shawn Mendes, I basically wrote off any chance of getting number one anywhere. It’s a huge surprise and just the most amazing feeling.”
Mendes scores his first U.K. top 10 album with Illuminate at three, while rockers Marillion return to the top five after almost three decades with their 18th release F**k Everyone And Run (F E A R).
The band last hit the top five with Clutching At Straws in 1987.
Last week’s number one album, Wild World by Bastille, drops to five.
Meanwhile, James Arthur lands his first number one single since his post-X-Factor debut Impossible in 2012. Say You Won’t Let Go holds off a charging The Weeknd, who enters the new chart at three with his Daft Punk collaboration Starboy. Last week’s number one single, The Chainsmokers and Haley’s Closer falls a spot to two.
