In New York City's East Village, Chris, a Buddhist monk in his twenties, lives a simple life filled with meditation, moderation and abstinence. Despite his lifestyle, he soon becomes entranced with his 18-year-old female neighbor, whom he dubs Lotusia because of her seeming innocence, like a lotus growing in a swamp of mud. He soon discovers this innocence to be superficial. A peephole in the wall breaks down the barrier between Chris and Lotusia as each peers into the life of the other. However, what Chris sees and his lack of interference with Lotusia's predicaments culminates in a series of tragic events.
