20 Feet From Stardom director to tackle Stax story

The Oscar-winning director of his music documentary 20 Feet From Stardom has signed on to take charge of a new film about soul record label Stax. Morgan Neville will chronicle the careers of legends like Otis Redding and Eddie Floyd in an adaptation of Robert Gordon’s book Respect Yourself.
Executives at Evergreen Media Group have signed a deal with Gordon to adapt his book into both a film and a Broadway musical.
Neville’s 20 Feet From Stardom focused on the lives of some of the world’s top backing singers, including another soul great, Darlene Love.
