When the Valiant Tobacco Company offers twenty five million dollars to any town that can quit smoking for thirty days, Reverend Clayton Brooks rallies the citizens of Eagle Rock, Iowa to accept the challenge. Eagle Rock is a small community and the only one in America that had all of its smokers sign the pledge. The citizens go from cranky to nearly insane as they attempt to win the prize, but appear to be succeeding, much to the displeasure of the tobacco company, who send people in to sabotage the resolve of the participants, and the eyes of the nation turn to Eagle Rock as the deadline approaches.
