Former rodeo cowboy Junior Bonner returns to Arizona to reconcile with his long-estranged family and is shocked at what he finds. His parents have separated and his brother has become a ruthless real estate man who is parceling off their land to make a fast buck. Shaken by the loss of his solid family unit, Bonner is searching for a way to reclaim his self-respect when the local Forth of July rodeo gives him the chance to ride the bull that everyone says is "unrideable."
