Chicago-born brothers Chris and Wayne Dixon are about to go into the army and decide to spend their last two weeks as civilians, drinking and chasing women in the South. On their way, the pick up pretty Jenny Scott who is hitchhiking. When the three of them are stranded with car problems in Macon, Georgia, the local sheriff lets them know in no uncertain terms that they are not welcome there. Around this time, two ex-cons roll into Macon on a crime spree, break into the sheriff's house and kill his wife while the sheriff is picking up their son from school. When their car breaks down a second time, Chris, Wayne, and Jenny spend the night in a barn, not realizing that they are on the sheriff's property. So when the sheriff returns and finds his wife murdered, he assumes that they are the killers.
