In 1961, some young men in Hollywood join the National Guard in order to avoid going to Vietnam. On one weekend duty, they are doing nothing when they are visited by the Army and threatened with being sent abroad on active duty unless they get to work. In response to this, the men hire a group of actors to play soldiers to impress the officers, and a group of pretty nurses to entertain a lecherous colonel.
