Heartbeat star William Simons dead at 79

British TV star William Simons has died, aged 79.
The actor, who portrayed police constable Alf Ventress for almost two decades on Heartbeat, also appeared on British shows Coronation Street, Emmerdale, and Last of the Summer Wine during his 60-year career.
His Heartbeat co-star Jason Burr has paid tribute to Simons via Twitter, calling him “a great actor and a lovely man”.
Born in Swansea, Wales, Simons appeared in over 350 episodes of beloved Sunday night drama Heartbeat, and he reprised the role of Ventress for spin-off The Royal.
