Life is hard for a group of Neapolitan fishermen living in Sicily. In an attempt to increase their haul, Salvatore, the captain, pushes his men into African territorial waters, endangering their lives. Eventually, they decide to return to Flegrea in Naples, which is where they originally came from. They want to start again. Franco, the youngest of the group, wants to abandon the whole thing and try his luck in America with his wife Rosa. Salvatore has to deal with the camorra and local fishermen, who aren't happy that he's come back. Rosa is accidentally killed by a young boy, and Franco is shattered. Death is one solution or perhaps he could start over, maybe with a new identity.
