Synopsis
Since 1969, when his work was first shown at the Bykert Gallery in Soho, Chuck Close has been best known as the re-inventor of portraiture. We watch him create a self-portrait from Polaroid to final stroke after 82 days, and hear numerous interviews with his subjects--friends, artists, family who discuss their own work and life in relation to his--to understand the influence he has had on his generation of art.
