David Driscoll wants to write a novel that lays the American family bare. He returns to the house where he grew up, on Alcatraz Avenue in Berkeley, and finds that the family now living there are renting out a room. David decides to move in so that he can secretly document the daily life of this particular family. Not just content to be a third party observer, he begins to involve himself in the family's affairs and to influence events so that the outcome will be to his liking. However, events soon spriral out of his control as he and the family come to blows as David reveals his dark family secret.
