Charlie McCready's daughter Wendy will soon be going off to college. Charlie thinks that Wendy's friends are dim-witted and lazy and most of them will be going to college with her, so he decides to be her best friend and set a better example for her. Not only does that mean that he is horning his way into her circle of friends, but he had to take up surfing and water skiing in the process. Even more problematic is the fact that Charlie disapproves of Wendy's boyfriend Bart, but when he tries to break them up, he finds it more difficult than he imagined.
