Jed is a poor guy from Jersey City who is obsessed with his rich and fabulous debutante fiancee Ashley from Connecticut. When Ashley dumps him, unceremoniously, at the altar, Jed goes home to Jersey to kill himself and encounters voluptuous Mimi, a lyricist, telephone-sex artist. Mimi's mission is to get her lyrics to her favorite crooner, Johnny Pompano, Jr., who's about to make a big come back with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir in Salt Lake City. When Jed gets a postcard from Ashley, saying she's run off to Salt Lake with the humpy Mormon, Steve, the unlikely couple, Jed and Mimi, head West in pursuit of their obsessions, while trying not to fall in love.
