• Lawless Review

A drama that breaks the rules to pack in thrills, emotion, and unfiltered Americana.

• El Cantante Review

Fueled by powerful performances from real-life marrieds Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony, El Cantante is the Latin version of Walk the Line--only with better music.

• Abandon Review

Had the evil twists been left out of the story, Abandon would probably have made a good dramatic movie. As a thriller, however, it falls flat.

• Piñero Review

Piñero's witty and penetrating work gets lost in the slanted and free-floating scenes that cover the New York Puerto Rican's 40 short-lived years. The end product is a narrow view of Piñero's life through the eyes of writer/director Ichasco.

• ROLE CALL: Robin Goes Psycho
By: Fiona Ng May 08, 2001

HOLLYWOOD, Sept. 14, 2000 -- From psychotically funny to just plain psycho? That seems to be the trajectory for Robin Williams. The Hollywood Reporter says today that the career funnyman has been cast against type as a pathologically obsessive man in the thriller "One Hour Photo." Written and directed by music video veteran Mark Romanek (whose directorial resume includes music videos for Madonna’s "Rain" and Beck’s "Devil’s Haircut"), the flick is scheduled to begin production in the fall. ’DRAG

• ROLE CALL: Ho! Ho! Ho! Redux
By: Steve Ryfle Mar 19, 2001

HOLLYWOOD, July 24, 2000 -- Home is where the money is, and Tim Allen is going back home. Daily Variety is reporting that Allen and Disney studios have a sequel to 1994's "The Santa Clause" in the works. That was the family comedy where Allen played a burned-out ad executive who reluctantly assumed St. Nick's present-distribution duties. And, oh yeah, it made $144 million. A non-linear telling of the chaotic true life story of the late acclaimed Puerto Rican poet-playwright-actor Miguel Pinero, who captivated New York City's cultural elite in the 1970s and 80s. His life is a study in contrasts. Pinero did time in Sing Sing for drug dealing and petty theft. However, he turned his prison experiences into the 1974 Tony-Award winning play "Short Eyes", but the resulting notoriety and fame was too much for the Latino urban poet, bad boy-genius as he retreated to the darker corners of New York City and died a premature death in 1988 at the age of 40. The biopic chronicles his rise from prison to the renowned New York Public Theater--founded by his friend Joseph Papp--and then, to the height of Broadway with his work; his turbulent love life; the founding of the acclaimed Nuyorican Poets Cafe on the Lower East Side; his work as a writer and actor in movies such as "Fort Apache: The Bronx", as well as hit TV series such as "Miami Vice", "Kojak", and "Baretta".
