Peter and Abigail are young newlyweds forced to confront the demons of their marriage on their first night in their new home. In the middle of the night they are awakened by the sound of their doorbell ringing. At the doorstep wearing masks are three middle-aged couples dressed in formal attire. They have mistakenly arrived in a limousine for the anniversary party of an elderly couple. Wishing to clarify the error, they invite themselves in to use the telephone. While the male guests advise Peter on how to build a financial nest egg, the female guests tutor Abigail on home decor and the wifely arts. A series of false exits by the guests escalates the situation into near-madness. Peter's inertia and Abigail's hysteria over their presence drives the couple to a confrontation with the guests and with themselves.
