Youri Glinski is a head surgeon and a brain specialist in a Moscow hospital. He is also a General in the Red Army and father of a large family. His time is shared between the hospital, his home, and his extra marital affairs. Each one of these occupations is accompanied by a strong inclination for alcohol. Early in 1953, on Stalin's initiative, everything starts to topple over when the KGB set up the "White Coats" conspiracy, which drags the General (by using someone who looks like him) into a dark story tainted by anti-semitism. Obliged to flee, he is caught and sent to a gulag and tortured. During Stalin's last days, Youri is freed and asked his medical knowledge to help save Stalin. Ten years later, having fled Moscow and his family, we find him on a train crossing Russia, as the leader of a gang which sells anything and everything.
