Dilip gets a job at the Union Carbide plant in Bhopal, India, which will pull his family out of poverty. Desperate for his paycheck, Dilip keeps quiet when he sees plant managers ignoring safety standards. His friend Motwani, is a tabloid journalist out to expose the foul air that he believes is dangerous and persuades an American journalist named Eva to confront a Carbide executive. As the two of them work to expose the danger, Dilip plans his sister's wedding, but when the wedding party takes place, guests begin to fall ill, victims of what becomes the world's largest chemical disaster to date. Thirty years later, people still die daily in Bhopal as a result of the tragedy and Eva visits the retired executive, wondering if he will admit blame or continue to demy the company's responsibility. The fictionalized story is based on true events.
