Hotshot attorney Bobby Kelly is on the fast track at a prestigious Los Angeles law firm and seems to have it all-good looks, money and an engagement to the managing partner's daughter. However, increasingly disenchanted, he is becoming unfocused, frustrated and frequently under fire for his mistakes. One night after work, Bobby and his associates stumble across a rundown bar. With a few cocktails fueling his bravado, Bobby stands up to belt out an old jazz standard and, much to everyone's surprise, has real talent. After another professional mishap, Bobby quits the firm to become house singer at the Foxes Den, where he becomes entwined in the lives of the staff and clientele. In the process of helping them, Bobby slowly finds himself.
