Tape-delayed Olympics for West Coast

Despite disagreeing with its affiliates, NBC has agreed to carry tape-delayed 2002 Winter Olympics coverage from Salt Lake City for West Coast viewers. Eighty percent of NBC’s West Coast affiliates wanted the games tape-delayed, Reuters reports. After conducting a survey, NBC reps found that most viewers would not be home to watch the games if the broadcast began at 5 p.m. The West Coast tape-delayed feed will start at 7:30 p.m. and end at 11 p.m., preserving both early and late local newscasts in their regular time periods. On the East Coast, live coverage will run through 11:30 p.m., delaying the late news by half-hour.
