Synopsis
The story of Emma Harte, the servant girl who became immensely rich, and her favorite granddaughter Paula Fairley, is continued in this sequel to "A Woman of Substance." Emma, now 80, designates Paula as heir to the mighty Harte-McGill business empire. Paula, out of all the grandchildren, most clearly resembles Emma herself. She is brilliant, beautiful, very wealthy, and although in command of her career, Paula is not in command of her life.<P>Now 25 years old, Paula's mistakes, conflicts and triumphs mirror Emma's. As her grip on Emma's dream becomes stronger, her marriage weakens. When a man as important as Emma's greatest love offers fulfillment, Paula must overcome her own will to find the happiness which is her rightful legacy.
