Synopsis
For five generations, the men in Jakie Rabinowitz's family have been cantors. Jakie has a wonderful singing voice and is expected to follow his father as cantor in their synagogue. But Jakie loves ragtime music and from an early age has been passionate about becoming a jazz singer. When he informs his father about his choice, they argue bitterly, Jakie leaves home and his father disowns him. Adopting the stage name Jack Robin, Jakie begins to pursue his career on the road and eventually gets his big break when a musical star offers him a part in her Broadway revue. Now Jakie must choose between the possibility of ever reconciling with his father or realizing his life-long dream of success as a jazz singer.
