6 recurring thoughts I had while streaming Godzilla vs. Kong at home

Hey, Hollywooders! What’s Good in the ‘Wood?

After seeing so many new movie releases out now in movie theaters and streaming at home, I decided to stay in my loungewear and head to HBO Max to watch Godzilla vs. Kong on the same day it premiered in movie theaters from the comfort of my couch.

Without further ado, here’s a raw and unfiltered list of every thought that went through my head while watching the new movie release Godzilla vs. Kong starring Millie Bobby Brown, Alexander Skarsgård, Julian Dennison, and Rebecca Hall.

Fellow Hollywood.com writer Jaime wrote about watching Godzilla vs. Kong in the movie theater. Read her thoughts about going to the theater to see a new release.

# 1 First and foremost, right from the beginning I thought, “I wish I had gone to the movie theater to see this movie”

From the opening scene, I knew I had made a mistake. This wasn’t a movie that I should be watching at home streaming. Jaime got the better assignment. This film, with its long and deep ties to cinematic history, deserved to be seen in a movie theater.

This thought occurred to me persistently throughout the movie. I was constantly distracted from the film. Missing key parts to change the laundry, let in the barking dog or answer the door for the Amazon deliveries. I must have had to rewind 5 to 10 times and kept thinking of the old slogan “be kind and rewind” and then immediately thinking I don’t want to be rewinding. I want to be sitting in my big reclining movie theater seat at an 8 pm showtime of Godzilla vs. Kong at the movie theater near me enjoying this movie without any interruptions. Next time I’m taking the assignment to go to the movie theater to watch one of the movies out now.

#2 Millie Bobby Brown looks MUCH better with hair

Believe it or not even as a member of the team here at Hollywood.com I don’t always know actors and actresses by name. I know that I’ve seen them in other movies or series but I can’t always put a name to the celebrities’ faces. I knew she was from Stranger Things but it took me searching the cast of Godzilla vs. Kong to learn her full name. It’s clear to see why Millie Bobby Brown has been listed as a rising young celebrity in Hollywood. Every time Millie Bobby Brown had a scene I just kept thinking, wow she looks great especially with a full head of hair lol.

#3 I am a total Alexander Skarsgard fan

Again just like with Millie Bobby Brown I knew I had seen Alexander Skarsgard before. I mean who could forget him. I remembered him from the HBO series True Blood and Big Little Lies (P.S. still can’t believe his co-star Shailene Woodley is engaged to Aaron Rodgers). And while the stars of this film are clearly Kong and Godzilla it was good to have Alexander Skarsgard in the cast as well and I’ll be watching for what movies or series he’s in next because I am officially a fan.

#4 Hollywood is full of upcoming young celebrities

I’ve already admitted I had to look up a couple of celebrities’ names. Hollywood is full of so much talent I can’t always keep up. But no one’s performance captivated me as much as Kaylee Hottle. The young deaf actress who plays Rebecca Hall’s adoptive daughter communicates with Kong through sign language. Surely she had been in other movies and I just could remember her name. Perhaps a Disney film, but which one? I scoured the internet and was shocked to find this was her cinematic debut. Watch out for her. I have a feeling she’ll be back and among the ranks of young Hollywood.

#5 I am team Kong

I chose sides early on. The bond between Jia (Kaylee Hottle) and Kong pulled at my heartstrings early on and I found myself constantly rooting for Kong.

I found myself congratulating him for the two epic right hooks during the fight scene with Godzilla at sea – two punched by the way worthy of any athletic boxing celebrity.

I found myself rooting for Kong in every fight scene.
