Bob Hightower and his gang rob a bank in Arizona. On the run from the sheriff and his posse, the men come across a woman in a covered wagon who is about to give birth. Before she dies during the delivery, she makes them promise to take care of her child, so they take the baby with them as they cross the desert on the way to New Jerusalem.
