While stalking game in northern Minnesota during the summer of 1967, a group of hunters stumble upon a strange creature: a ten-year-old boy who eats, sleeps, hunts, and howls like a wolf. The boy is captured by scientists and named Lucan. They fail to discover how he came to be there or who his parents are. Brought to a research center and taught the ways of modern man, the boy survives and adapts.
The series was to depict Lucan's adventures, ten years later, when he begins the quest to find his natural parents. However, in the two-month interval between telecasting the first and second episodes, the story was changed. Instead of being set free by the university research center to search for his parents, Lucan escapes from the authorities, who had held him in captivity for fear that he would revert back to his wolf-like behavior.
Stories depict Lucan's search for his parents, a search hindered by Prentiss, a bounty hunter hired by the university to capture him. After another short absence, the series returned with its final storyline, which depicts Lucan's adventures as a man wrongly accused of murder.
