An old man is outraged at the city when a teenage boy is beaten to death after being denied refuge in the old man's home. A young teacher is determined to learn the truth about the murder of one of his students, a Hispanic teenager, who is beaten to death in a racial attack. He was denied refuge in the home of an old man and his wife.<P>The old man is dubbed a "bad samaritan" by the press for apparently refusing to help after witnessing the crime. He seems to accept the picture of himself as cold and unfeeling and refuses to talk about the events. The teacher probes into the story, and, convinced that the old man knows more than he is telling, attempts to discover the whole story, and is astonished when he finally learns the truth.
