Released on the same reel as Eclipse's unthrilling "thrill" picture The Water Flyer was the vastly superior At the Bar of Justice. While rummaging through a trash can, an impoverished woman faints from hunger. Several wealthy passersby witness this, but refuse to lift a finger to help the unfortunate woman. Finally, a well-to-do good Samaritan takes pity on the woman and her equally woebegone male companion. He takes the couple to his mansion, where he extends all the courtesies of the house. Six months later, the same two tramps are seen picking their way through the same rubbish can. Once again, the good Samaritan appears on the scene, but this time he is engaged in a quarrel with a companion, ending his argument by shooting the other man dead. The two rag-pickers repay their former benefactor for his previous kindnesses by hiding him from the authorities. The two hoboes even go so far as to take responsibility for the murder, but once again the wealthy man comes to their rescue by gallantly confessing to his crime.
