The title of this cautionary Hungarian drama translates as Wine. Wealthy farmer Imre Baraca (Paul Javor), a prince of a fellow as long as he's sober, agrees to give up drinking for the sake of his beautiful young wife July (Panni Kerry). He stays on the wagon for seven years, during which time he and July enjoy a near-idyllic relationship. Then one night, Imre's jailbird brother Matthew, who'd been imprisoned for killing a man while intoxicated, shows up for a reunion. To celebrate Matthew's release, July persuades Imre to have just "one little drink." One little drink leads to another, and by the end of the evening Imre has beaten his poor wife into senselessness. The remainder of the film concerns Imre's Herculean efforts to make amends with his wife and the girl's understandable reluctance to forgive and forget.
