When a fluke accident leaves her teenage son deaf, Maggie blames herself, as does her son Peter, and their relationship becomes strained. They move to a ranch to be closer to a school for the disabled where Maggie meets and falls in love with Owen, a handsome cowboy, whom her son instantly dislikes because he won't tolerate Peter's tantrums and moods. Peter's suspicions about smooth-talking Owen lead him to the secret of Owen's true identity.
