Synopsis
A woman discovers how much love and money have to do with marriage as she tries to get a green card in this comedy. Yasmina (Sanaa Alaoui) is a Moroccan expatriate who is living as an illegal immigrant in Spain. Yasmina is sharing a flat with her brother Abdel (Malayo Ben) and is dating Javi (Jose Antonio Lucia), who suspects her interest in him lies in marrying him to stay in the country legally rather than true love. While Yasmina's feelings for Javi are sincere, when she's humiliated while being introduced to his family she breaks up with him, and shortly afterward Abdel, who thinks Yasmina is turning her back on her heritage, kicks her out of his home. With nowhere else to go, Yasmina turns to Lola (Maria Luisa Borruel), a local activist who works with unauthorized immigrants. Lola lets Yasmina stay with her and her husband Jorge (Francisco Olmo), and while trying to find a way for Yasmina to gain citizen ship through legal channels, Lola and Jorge keep an eye peeled for a man who might be willing to marry her. Alfredo (Jose Luiz Garcia Perez), a well-meaning schlub who knows Jorge, expresses a willingness to wed Yasmina, but there's a catch -- since he's out for work, she'll need to pay him eight hundred dollars for his hand in marriage. Un novio para Yasmina (aka A Boyfriend For Yasmina) was a multiple prizewinner at the 2008 Malaga Film Festival in Spain.
