7 Things We Learned From Jimmy Kimmel’s ‘Star Wars’ Special

Last night’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live was a celebration of all things Star Wars and several members of the cast and crew (including director J.J. Abrams, and actors Carrie Fisher, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, and Adam Driver) stopped by to discuss their roles in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Here’s everything we learned about the upcoming movie!

1. The first word spoken in the film is “This”

As Jimmy Kimmel pointed out, if you re-arranged the letters in “This” it spells “Sith.” Hmm, he could be onto something….

2. The ending involves “nudity”

At one point Carrie Fisher leaned over and whispered the ending to the movie in Kimmel’s ear, claiming “it involves nudity.” This prompted to Kimmel to respond “Really? Wow, that’s a hell of a lightsaber battle.”

3. J.J. Abrams didn’t want to direct Star Wars

Initially J.J. Abrams was reluctant to direct the film, “I was only reluctant because A. I love the movie Star Wars so much. I love the original trilogy. I was 11 years old when I saw the first one and it had a profound impact on me. And getting so close to something kind of scared me a little bit.”

Abrams also had plans to take some time off work and spend time with his family, but was convinced to do the movie when producer Kathleen Kennedy told him, “If you pass this up, you’ll probably regret it for the rest of your life.”

4. The cast wasn’t allowed to take the script home with them

While auditioning for the movie, they had to come to the Pinewood studio to memorize their lines. This was particularly hard on John Boyega who had to audition nine times. “I felt like I was living a double life like Batman,” Boyega said.

5. Daisy Ridley was on a date when she found out she got the part

Daisy Ridley was seeing a play with a guy when she found out she landed the role of Rey. She had to keep sneaking out of the theater and he still doesn’t know why (although he might know now).

6. Adam Driver kept his character’s identity a secret from everyone (including his wife)

Ever since the cast was first announced, there was been an shroud of mystery surrounding the Sith Kylo Ren, played by Adam Driver. Throughout the filming, Driver was committed to his secrecy and refused to tell anyone anything about his role, including his own wife. Unfortunately J.J. Abrams spoiled it for her.

7. Only friends and family have seen the full movie

Only a handful of people have actually seen the whole movie and that list does not include Jimmy Kimmel.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens hits theaters December 18th.
