When you serve in the military with someone you become friends forever. There’s an eternal bond that will normally always be there.
In Richard Linklater‘s new film ‘Last Flag Flying’ he takes that concept just a little bit further. Sal Nealon (Bryan Cranston) owns a bar and still loves to drink, Mueller (Laurence Fishburne) found God and became a Reverend, and Larry ‘Doc’ Shepherd (Steve Carell) needs them for a trip. As it turns out Larry’s son was killed in action during the Iraq war and would be buried in Arlington. Larry doesn’t want his son buried there, so the three old friends go on a road trip to get his son buried.
All three actors are master class, and Linklater knows how to tell a story, and this feels like a story that needs to be told.
‘Last Flag Flying’ releases November 3, 2017.
