Amber Heard Rumored To Be The Next Mystique

A number of specious casting rumors for Matthew Vaughn’s upcoming X-Men: First Class have been jockeying for attention these last few weeks, ever since Vaughn began signing talent to the prequel.  First we heard that James McAvoy would be playing the young Professor Xavier (bald?), then news came in that Michael Fassbender would likely fill the shoes of a young Magneto.

Now, Production Weekly is reporting that Amber Heard is in talks to play a young Mystique – played by Rebecca Romijn-Stamos in the first three X-Men movies – alongside McAvoy and Fassbender.

If Romijn-Stamos’ character in the first X-Men flicks is any indication, it won’t matter too much how good an actress Heard is.  Although she performed solidly in Zombieland, First Class will require only that she have the body to pull off Mystique’s trademark combination of strength and svelte.

For evidence of Heard’s qualifications, look no farther than the image below.  Now imagine her covered in blue scales.  Kinda seems like a waste, doesn’t it?
