In her latest movie, the romantic comedy Leap Year, Amy Adams (Julie & Julia, Enchanted) plays a woman who concocts a scheme to fly to Ireland and propose to her boyfriend on Leap Day (February 29th) because, according to Irish legend, that’s when women are supposed to do such a thing. Which begs the question: Why Leap Day, and why Ireland? Will the ground beneath her open up and swallow her whole if she pops the question on, say, February 28th in Scotland?
