Amy Adams, Chris Cooper, Rashida Jones Join Muppets

ALT TEXTWell, we all know Jason Segel loves Muppets. And it looks like he found some friends who do too. Amy Adams, Chris Cooper, and Rashida Jones are all in talks to join Disney’s upcoming untitled Muppet movie, which Segel wrote with Forgetting Sarah Marshall director Nicholas Stoller.

It’s been awhile since we’ve seen the Muppets on the big screen. The last movie to release in theaters was 1999’s Muppets from Space, which I’m pretty sure I saw in theaters, which I’m pretty sure was awesome.

Anyway, the story details are slim, but what we do know is it takes Kermit and the gang into a familiar world: Hollywood. The group must come together to put on a show in order to save a movie studio.

Segel will star in the lead role, with Adams as his girlfriend. Jones takes the role of an ABC executive. Cooper plays the villain, a greedy man who wants to drill for oil underneath the studio. And he also has a personal vendetta against the Muppets: he never thought they were funny.

So, what does this all mean? Well, it sounds like the first Muppet picture in 11 years is going to be exactly what the Muppets should be: fun, wacky, and hilarious. The dynamic cast will work well with writing from Segel, who proved himself as a terrific writer with Sarah Marshall. Production is scheduled to begin in November.
