Answering the Call: Ground Zero's Volunteers | 2005
A chronicle about the thousands of emergency personnel, on and off-duty, who responded to this nation's worst disaster that took place on September 11, 2001. The brave men and women in uniform, as well as relief workers and individual citizens, worked with unprecedented commitment and compassion in the face of the devastating and tragic event. The film includes never before seen footage by Lou Angeli, a veteran volunteer firefighter and filmmaker, who was, himself, part of the volunteer effort. It depicts the surreal sites and sounds of the, now sacred, ground that was once the World Trade Center complex--a site now known throughout the world as Ground Zero. The efforts' various volunteers describe their experiences of responding to the call for help; they discuss how self-made leaders were born, and how inspiring teamwork made brothers and sisters out of thousands of strangers.
