Russell Brand and Helen Mirren have already been cast in the film, which tells the story of a rich drunk (Brand) who must marry a rich heiress of his mother’s (Mirren) choosing or lose his inheritance, but falls in love with a poor woman instead. Greta Gerwig, of Greenberg, is up for the love interest role. If cast, Garner will take take the part of the rich heiress, played by Liza Minnelli in the original, with Nolte her religious father.
Garner recently made her debut as a film producer with Butter, an independent comedy about the world of competitive butter-sculpting. This film marks Nolte’s first role in a romantic comedy since I Love Trouble, a 1994 flop co-starring Julia Roberts.
