In post-World War I Ireland, Connie Wintour is a member of the ruling British aristocracy. Initially sheltered and immune to the troubles just outside her door, Connie can no longer ignore the hardships of war when she receives news that her brother has been killed in battle. Stirred into action, she becomes involved with the Irish independence movement. Bizarrely, however, she begins manifesting physical ailments, beginning with paralysis of her arm and worsening from there.
