Tom Hanks‘ Robinson Crusoe-esque hit, “Cast Away,” reigned supreme again at the box office.
“Cast Away,” directed by Robert Zemeckis, took in another $24.1 million, bringing its three-week total to $143.6 million, according to studio estimates today.
“What Women Want” spent a third week as runner-up. The Mel Gibson and Helen Hunt starrer earned $15.5 million, bringing its four-week total to $137.8 million.
Rounding out the Top Five were director Steven Soderbergh’s “Traffic,” a strong debut at No. 3 with $14.9 million; “Miss Congeniality” with $13.8 million ($66.2 million total); and “The Family Man” with $9.2 million ($56.3 million total).
In other box office news, Ang Lee‘s critically acclaimed “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” continued to build momentum in limited release, earning $3.75 million for the No. 10 spot and bringing its total to $18.8 million.
