Synopsis

Friends in the big leagues face illness in John D. Hancock's emotional drama "Bang the Drum Slowly" (1973). Star pitcher Henry 'Author' Wiggen (Michael Moriarty) has always looked out for his buddy, the dim catcher Bruce Pearson (Robert De Niro). But when Pearson's health takes a turn for the worse, Wiggen covers up his disease and works to make sure Pearson's last season is one to remember.
